In a nutshell:
Luxurious and romantic boutique hotel where every room has a private plunge pool and ocean views – ideal for honeymooners. Excellent facilities, including several restaurants, two pools and an award-winning spa.

Honeymooners look no further – the Capella Ixtapa has all the ingredients for a relaxing and romantic vacation by the ocean. Each suite has its own large terrace and infinity plunge pool with breathtaking views of the Pacific. Check out the Penthouse suites for serious al fresco relaxation – they have an expansive terrace with hammock, daybed, and even a TV.

If you can’t stretch to a Penthouse, don’t worry – the regular Ocean Front and the Deluxe Ocean Front Junior Suites are very desirable. Not many properties offer this much indulgence in their “standard rooms”; beautiful views when you wake, ample space for lounging in the shade on your terrace, complimentary cold sodas to hand in your minibar, and twenty four hour room service.

What surprised us here is that we were barely tempted to leave the property – for a hotel with just 59 suites, the facilties are incredible.

There is a full service spa, a good fitness center and yoga room, two swimming pools, and – most surprisingly – three great restaurants. Choose from the romantic and sophisticated “a Mare”, the casual and fun open air “Seafood Market” or the convivial “Las Rocas”. There are two bars, including one that serves tapas and ceviche, and one of the most comprehensive tequila bars in the region.

Best of all, the service is faultless and every member of staff goes out of their way to make your stay unforgettable.

Rooms

Each of the 59 suites at Capella Ixtapa has a large ocean view terrace furnished with a refreshing plunge pool.

The five magnificent penthouses boast the largest outdoor living space and a slightly larger interior. They have lounging, dining and working space outside (the wireless internet access generally extends to the terrace), and of course they all have prime ocean views.

Deluxe Ocean Front Junior Suites are a little larger than the regular Ocean Front Junior Suites. The plunge pool in the Deluxe suites is generally slightly larger and not located under the terrace (the pools in the Ocean Front suites are shaded by the terrace roof). Deluxe junior suites also have a bigger bathroom and dressing room, and a larger terrace. Our favorite feature of these wonderful Deluxe Junior Suites is the outdoor daybed. Ocean Front suites have outdoor seating in the form of comfortable chairs, but the daybeds add a nice touch of frivolity to relaxation time.

The Capella Ocean Front and Capella Deluxe Ocean Front Junior Suites are located on the 5th and 6th levels of the hotel and have the best views, plus some extra amenities.

All suites are fully air-conditioned and have satellite TV, wireless internet connection, and a minibar stocked with complimentary soft drinks.

Deluxe Ocean View Junior Suites boast a large terrace with wonderful views of the bay. The terraces are furnished with a comfortable daybed for lounging, as well as seating where you can enjoy a sunset cocktail. The plunge pool can be heated, upon request.

In the Deluxe Ocean Front Junior Suites, the plunge pools are positioned away from the covered part of the terrace, so they enjoy plenty of sunshine.

The interiors have sophisticated, simple decor in neutral colors. The wall-mounted television can be angled to face the bed or the comfortable armchair.

Deluxe Junior Suites have an extra large bathroom and dressing area. The shower has an ocean view, and the spacious closet area includes an ironing board and iron, room safe, hairdryer and a double vanity area.

Capella Deluxe Junior Suites are similar to the Deluxe Junior Suites, but are located on the 5th and 6th levels of the property. Choose a Capella Junior Suite for the very best ocean views.

The Ocean Front Junior Suites are slightly smaller than the Deluxe Junior suites, but they have most of the same amenities.

The bedroom area is roughly the same size, but the bathroom is smaller and doesn’t have the extensive closet area. It has a single vanity and a spacious walk-in shower with an ocean view.

The terrace is a little smaller and is furnished with armchairs instead of the daybed. The views are great!

The suites are usually arranged with a Deluxe Ocean Front Suite next to an Ocean Front Suite, so there are both types of suites on each level of the property (except the penthouse level). All the terraces have plenty of privacy, and a generally get a mix of sun and shade throughout the day, but the plunge pools in the Deluxe Ocean Front Suites are mostly under the cover of the terrace roof, hence they are more shaded than the pools in the Deluxe Junior Suites.

Capella Ocean Front Junior Suites are similar to the Ocean Front Junior Suites, but are located on the 5th and 6th levels of the property. Choose a Capella Junior Suite for the very best ocean views.

The lavish outdoor living spaces are a prime reason to book one of Capella Ixtapa’s Penthouse Suites. The sunny and shady terrace features a refreshing plunge pool, plump daybeds, and a dining area (room service is available 24 hours a day).  All the Penthouse suites are located on the top level 7 of the property.

To keep you entertained, the terrace is equipped with a satellite television and DVD player, plus an iPod docking station.

The interior has a similar layout to the Deluxe Ocean Front Junior Suites, but in the Penthouse there is extra space for two comfortable armchairs, facing the ocean.

The bathroom features a large dressing area, similar to the Deluxe Junior Suites, and a spacious walk-in shower.

restaurant

Las Rocas

The dining options at the Capella Ixtapa are very impressive. There are three restaurants, each with a completely different ambiance, but all with ocean views. We can understand guests not being tempted to leave the property, as the choices are excellent.

Las Rocas restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and also offers a pool lounge chair service. Our favorite seating for breakfast is on the terrace that seems to be perched just above the ocean. Choose the Continental or American breakfast, or simply select from the a la carte options which include omelettes, cereals and Mexican favorites such as chilaquiles.

The lunch and dinner menus feature “coastal cuisine”, a collection of dishes from the Mediterranean, Mexican Pacific Coast, and California regions.

A Mares

A Mares is an intimate, romantic restaurant that is open in the evening only, from Tuesday through Sunday. This is an ideal place for dinner a deux, with graceful service and elegant tableware. The specialty here is modern Mexican cuisine, with an emphasis on the state of Guerrero. However, the chef insists that the menu is “just a reference” and that special requests are encouraged.

The A Mares Terrace bar and lounge boasts one of the largest selections of Single Barrel and Anejo tequilas. An all-day tapas and ceviche menu is offered here.

The Seafood Market

Our favorite choice for a fun evening of al fresco dining at Capella Ixtapa is the Seafood Market. There are only ten tables here, each one caressed by sea breezes and illuminated by candles and torches.

On arrival, you’ll pass a display of the freshest fish, sourced from local fishermen, on crushed ice.

The menus are depicted on chalkboards, and guests select their fish from the display. Don’t worry if a member of the party doesn’t eat fish, you can also order from the other restaurant menus and dine here.

pool

The main pool is gorgeously photogenic, with an infinity edge that merges with the Pacific beautifully. The irregular shape makes lap swimming difficult, but it is a very enticing place to cool off.

Around the main pool, guests relax on double loungers shaded by white parasols. For even more shade, check out the decadent pool cabanas, with their thatched roofs and white curtains.

The second pool is usually quieter, but is just as picturesque. This pool is lined with granite, so it appears darker than the main pool.

spa

Capella Ixtapa’s stylish spa has received many accolades since opening. The his-and-hers relaxation rooms are beautifully furnished and equipped with everything you’ll need to de-stress and prepare for your treatments, including robes and flip flops.

There are sauna and steam rooms, Jacuzzi, fresh water and juice bars, and a beauty salon. The well equipped fitness center has views over the ocean.

Local ingredients and techniques feature extensively in the selection of treatments, including a Papaya and Mango scrub, Lemongrass and Toronjil wrap, and the Sacred Obsidian massage.

The signature treatment for couples is the “Yoloxochitl Love Ritual”, which takes place in one of the couples rooms, most of which have an ocean view.
