In a nutshell:
Elegant retreat with lavishly furnished rooms and suites, world class spa, outstanding service and gourmet restaurants. Right by one of the few swimming beaches in Los Cabos. Families welcome, some rooms connect by private hallways.
Note – our photos were taken before the recent refurbishments.
One&Only Resorts’ lavish remodeling of the legendary Palmilla has boosted the resort to the top rank of super-luxury hotels in Los Cabos. It’s impossible to overstate the decadence here – from butler service in every room to the opportunity to reserve your own private cove, complete with four-poster bed and over-water sun loungers.
Even more impressive is the impeccable service that manages to be incredibly attentive yet not fall into the trap of being condescending.
Palmilla’s elegant low rise buildings are set amongst lush green lawns and exotic gardens. The suites and rooms are opulently decorated, every one featuring a pretty day-bed on an ocean view terrace or patio, a telescope for star gazing or whale watching, and complimentary internet access including wi-fi in many areas of the hotel.
Even the Superior Rooms are a treat, and the spacious suites are wonderfully extravagant, although only a few accommodations are currently equipped with plunge pools (perhaps to retain the original style of the property). All have lovely views of the sea.
Hedonists will love the fabulous spa, which includes private day villas for couples, set in lush tropical gardens and featuring daybeds and outdoor baths.
Although Palmilla is heavenly for honeymooners, families too can enjoy the superb facilities; there’s a special Club House for kids and an activities program for children from four to eleven years old.
Honeymooners and families are segregated to some extent with the designation of an “adults only” pool and quieter accommodation sections that are further from the children’s pool, so everyone is happy.
Those people whose ideal vacation is one filled with activities will appreciate the outstanding facilities at Palmilla. The golf is of course world-class, and there are also two floodlit tennis courts with a resident professional. Excellent fishing and diving (including certification) can be arranged and there are some great excursions available, including day tours to the spectacular East Cape in an H2 Hummer Off Road vehicle.
Palmilla’s rooms and suites are housed in three story casas or single story casitas. All enjoy ocean views and are furnished with generously sized patios or balconies. Many desirable amenities are standard here, including telescopes for star gazing or whale watching, flat-screen satellite TV with DVD/CD player and Bose surround sound system, complimentary high speed internet access with Wi-Fi in many areas of the hotel, and a wonderful curvy daybed for afternoon siestas on the terrace.
On arrival you’ll be introduced to your butler, who will assist with dinner reservations, laundry and pressing arrangements, and will take note of your preferences for the aromatherapy menu and choice of fresh fruits. Your butler should be your first point of contact for any special requests.
The majority of the rooms belong to the Junior Suite category. These have an exceptionally spacious bedroom with sitting area and an indulgent bathroom. Rooms are smaller but still have a generous dose of Palmilla’s extravagant luxury. Indeed, we reckon the Casa Tres Palmas, which houses the Superior rooms and is the only two story building, is one of the prettiest buildings at Palmilla, and it certainly has breathtaking ocean views. This building is close to the Agua pool and so is also convenient for families.
The One Bedroom Suites are the ultimate indulgence and feature lavishly furnished parlours and abundant space for entertaining. All One Bedroom Suites have a separate bedroom with king bed.

Palmilla is a current favorite with Hollywood stars, many of whom choose one of the lavish One Bedroom Suites for their vacation. The most desirable are the Beach Front One Bedroom Pool Casita Suites which have an impressive 1,400 square feet of floor space and feature magnificent beach front terraces with outdoor dining areas that are ideal for entertaining, plus a private infinity pool and hot tub.
Every One Bedroom Suite has a separate sitting room divided from the bedroom by ornate wooden doors, and a luxurious bathroom and dressing area.
One of the highlights of a stay at the One&Only Palmilla is the opportunity to dine at the resort’s superb restaurants. Seared is a new steakhouse that is the masterpiece of Michelin-starred chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten. The freshest Pacific seafood is also featured.
Agua is more casual but still very elegant and a wonderful choice for outdoor dining. Don’t miss the opportunity to dine à deux right by the ocean at Agua. A few cozy tables are set at the edge of the bluff, affording wonderful views and sea breezes.
Suviche offers wonderful fresh sushi together with Mexican ceviches, just perfect for this tropical climate. Breeze is located by the Vista pool and is the perfect choice for a light lunch or an afternoon snack.
The beaches at Palmilla are dramatically beautiful; the deep blue ocean fringed with white surf washes the fine white and powder soft sand. A wonderfully wide stretch of beach fronts the Vista pool and is scattered with inviting hammocks and comfortable loungers set beneath palapa shades.
This beach develops into a series of delightful coves nestled below the gardens and suites. Some of most secluded of these have been designated as locations for the “Private Cove Experience”, whilst others are furnished with hammocks, from which you can watch the waves crash against the rocks, sending spray high into the air. As an added bonus, from December through March you can look out for the gray whales as they migrate down to calf in the warm waters of the Sea of Cortes.
Most of the coastline in this region is not suitable for swimming but Palmilla is blessed with a beautiful swimming beach at the Eastern border of the resort. It’s one of the calmest bays on the Corridor and is also good for snorkeling, but caution is still required.
For the ultimate indulgence, reserve your own private cove for the day. You’ll be allocated a secluded area with a four poster day bed (a comfortable king size bed suspended by rope beneath a sun shade), an over-water sun bed and a palapa-roofed dining area. The fee includes butler service and you can take lunch and dinner by the ocean if you wish. The butler will make sure that the area is kept private, just for you.
The Vista pool is reserved for adults only. Surrounded by tall palms and with the roar of the ocean behind, it’s the perfect place to relax and unwind. Its freeform shape with natural stone sides means it blends perfectly into the rugged landscape and it’s surrounded by sun beds with deep cushions and parasols.
There’s a palapa-roofed swim up bar serving drinks and light snacks to enjoy poolside, while those requiring something a more substantial will find it at theBreeze restaurant just a few steps away.
The new Agua swimming pool is a glorious oasis of cool blue water surrounding islands of palm trees. Both adults and children are welcome to swim here, and there are shallow and deep sections. The pool meanders through the gardens and along the beachfront.
The Spa at Palmilla is a glorious sanctuary of leafy gardens and scented pavilions. Most treatments can be taken in an exclusive Spa Villa, featuring your own walled garden, day bed and outdoor tub and rain shower, a heavenly experience for honeymooners and a serene location for individual contemplation. You can also choose to have massages in a cabana by the ocean or in your room or suite if you prefer.
The Bathing Rituals menu is specifically designed to take place in the comfort of your own suite (try it if you can’t entice your loved one to the spa!) For example, an Exotic Flower Bath Ritual includes fresh rose petals, Exotic Island Flower Bath Oil, Exotic Lime and Ginger Salt Glow, Wild Lavender Shower, and Exotic Island Flower Body Balm – all presented on a tray for you to enjoy as and when you like.
We recommend all guests to visit the spa at least once during your stay – even if you don’t have time for a lengthy treatment, guests can use the public areas including hot and cold water pools, sauna, steam and showers, subject to availability. There is also a spacious fitness center fitted with the latest in cardio-vascular equipment, featuring individual video screens.
