In a nutshell:
Vibrant and modern design hotel in the heart of downtown Playa del Carmen, and only a few blocks from the beach. Stylish rooms and decadent rooftop terrace with pool and bar. Recommended for young adults looking to combine sightseeing, beach, and nightlife.
It only took one look for us to fall in love with everything about Be Playa. We love the location on 10th Ave and Calle 26, close to our favorite part of 5th Avenue and only a short stroll to the beach. This area is quieter than the older part of town near the ferry docks, and there are many cool restaurants and smart boutiques nearby.
We love the sexy rooms, especially the Junior and Master Suites which have circular Jacuzzi tubs and step-out balconies; the comfortable beds and lightweight duvets. As you’d expect, there are a good selection of high-tech amenities such as iPod docking stations, room safes that can hold a small laptop and plenty of electrical outlets in the room to charge up your own gadgets.
The rooftop lounge and pool are fun and quirky, with oversized daybeds and views of the Caribbean. Be Playa’s rooftop bar is one of Playa del Carmen’s hidden secrets. Barely visible at street level, the terrace takes on a whole new character as darkness falls.
Back on the ground floor, the in-house Sushi Club is one of our favorite restaurants in Playa. We love the elegant decor as well as the beautifully presented cuisine. Although there’s a world of choices for drinking and dining in this cosmopolitan resort, we could happily spend many an evening without ever leaving the property.
So if sushi, cocktails, quirky modern decor and a great location are right up your street, Be Playa could be your perfect home in the city.
The Junior Suites and Master Suites are the most desirable rooms at Be Playa, but if you are just in town for a few days then the Standard rooms are comfortable and well equipped. Although the Standard rooms don’t have full length windows like the suites, the mostly white decor means that they are still bright and airy.
All room categories can have either one king or two queen beds. They are spacious enough to accommodate a family or friends sharing a room, though the open plan showers and tubs in the suites are more suited to couples.
Guest rooms are arranged over the first four floors of the building, and there is a small elevator. Each level has a mix of the three room types, with the Master Suites occupying the corner positions.
Bottled water is provided in all the rooms and mini-bars are stocked with beers and sodas (at extra charge). Music from the rooftop bar may drift down into the guest rooms on busy nights, but we reckon it’s still one of the quieter places to sleep in downtown Playa.

Breakfast is served in the restaurant each morning. There are a few seats on the outdoor patio and more in the skilfully lit interior.
The rooftop bar at Be Playa is a little known gem. Neon lights and a starry sky illuminate the seating areas, and sea breezes provide the only air-conditioning that’s required here.

The view over towards the sea, with the lights of Cozumel twinkling on the horizon, is especially alluring.
