In a nutshell:
Simple and charming beachfront property on a pretty cove in the central part of Tulum’s beach zone. One beachfront cabana and several rooms with sea views. Restaurant, bar, and good proximity to other places to eat, rent snorkeling gear, bicycles etc.
Posada Punta Piedra lies in the central part of Tulum’s beach zone and is built in the traditional style of the area. It’s simple but charming, and provides enough amenities for a relaxed, low-key beach vacation.
On this quiet cove, guests can feel far removed from the high rise or glitzy hotels. The beach is the main attraction, and all the guest rooms are just a few paces away from the cool white sand. Each guest room has a bathroom with a hot water shower, a comfortable bed, and a fan. A generator provides electricity throughout the day, and there are electrical outlets in the rooms, so you can bring phones and laptops if you must. Wireless internet access is available, though, as with other such amenities in Tulum, is subject to the restrictions of this off-the-grid location.
Punta Piedra has a breezy beachfront restaurant, so guests don’t have to leave the property for meals. There are, however, plenty of other options just a stroll away. Tulum now has a wide range of restaurants offering world cuisines or local dishes, ranging from street food to gourmet. There are swing-seated beach bars, sunset cocktail lounges, and fine dining restaurants within a few miles radius.
The eleven guest rooms are located close to the beach. A generator provides electricity all day (subject to the limitations of nature and the local infrastructure). Wireless Internet access is provided free of charge in the public areas of the property.

The beachfront restaurant is open-sided and palapa-roofed, ideal for breezy breakfasts and lunches.
The restaurant and bar that’s just off the street is a convivial meeting place for coffee, cocktails or an evening meal.
Posada Punta Piedra occupies the largest part of this picturesque cove. There are ample sun loungers for guests, whilst shade is provided by a few palm trees and some umbrellas.
The beach is a great location for swimming or even snorkeling, though the reef is too far off shore for most people to swim to. There can be gentle surf, depending on the wind conditions (there’s often a strong breeze in Tulum).
Since the hotel lies on a cove rather than the long stretch of beach to the south, it is quieter. Many people enjoy having this little piece of paradise to themselves, and then walk along the road a little to join the long stretch of beach when they want to stroll.
The nearest airport is Cancun – by road the journey to Posada Punta Piedra takes about two hours.
From Cancun airport, head south following the signs to Playa del Carmen and Tulum on the highway #307.
You will pass Playa del Carmen and Playacar and also the entrance to the ruins at Tulum. Turn to the left at the major crossroads with the road to Coba. So, when you see a turning to the right to Coba, you should turn left (signed to Boca Paila, Aldea Zama and hotel zone).
You will be heading directly towards the sea on a very straight road. As the road approaches the sea it bends to the right. Follow the road right and ignore the turning to the left hand side.
Punta Piedra is located approximately a quarter of a mile further along on the left hand side of the road after the Papaya Playa Project and Cabanas Copal and before Piedra Esconcida, Tulum Bay and Zamas.
There is free parking for guests at the hotel.
