Just twenty minutes by road from Valladolid, Ek Balam is a Mayan site that has attracted a lot of attention in the last few years. It’s a fairly large site and is still relatively quiet, offering a very different experience to nearby Chichen Itza.
This is one of the few sites where it is still possible to climb (with care!) the main pyramid. There are good informational signs in the site, including some in English, but guides are usually available at the entrance to the ruins.
