Best for: Privacy, romance and seductive modern style
Nizuc Resort and Spa, Punta Nizuc
Nizuc Resort and Spa sits just outside of Cancun’s hotel zone on the cusp of two glorious beaches. It’s a hedonistic retreat, with expansive spa facilities and several fine dining restaurants. The property boasts three large swimming pools, but if you’re looking for the privacy of your own pool then we suggest looking at the Garden Pool villas and Garden Pool Pavilion villas.
The Garden Pool Villas are individual suites surrounded by walled gardens, each one totally private and boasting a stunning dark-tiled pool. They are located in the main section of the property, close to the spa. Garden Pool Pavilion villas have additional outdoor living space in the garden, and would be ideal choice for honeymooners.
For those that prefer to have an ocean view, Nizuc’s magnificent Master Suite boasts elevated views over the Caribbean and has a private pool that stretches the full length of the suite. This suite can connect to a two bedded room, making it a perfect choice for a luxury family vacation.
Best for: Spectacular views, affordable indulgence
Perched on the hillside overlooking Acapulco bay, this timelessly elegant property is our favorite place to stay in town. Acapulco may be famous for its glitzy nightlife, but guests at Las Brisas spend most of their vacation marveling at the breathtaking views and soaking up the privacy of their own swimming pool.
Every room at las Brisas has a private or semi-private pool (semi-private pools are shared between two or three of the Shared Pool Casitas, every other room category has a private pool). We recommend the suites for their additional privacy and prime locations on the hillside, but even the views from the lower level casitas don’t disappoint.

Banyan Tree Mayakoba, Riviera Maya
There are currently three luxury hotels in the Mayakoba estate and nature reserve, and of these only the Banyan Tree can boast a private swimming pool for each of its guest rooms. Each accommodation at the Banyan Tree is an independent Asian-style villa with from one to three bedrooms surrounded by a courtyard and gardens. The swimming pool winds around the villa so that you can step out from the bedroom into the pool, and many of the villas have total privacy.
The Mayakoba ecological reserve includes miles of beautiful beaches backed by mangroves, lagoons and canals. This is a tranquil and relaxing place to vacation, far away from crowded resorts and high rise hotels. Guests at any of the three properties within the estate enjoy complimentary nature tours by boat through the peaceful canals, with the opportunity to spot crocodiles, turtles and many species of birds.
Best for: Intimate and romantic, world class beach
Kin Sol Soleil (formerly called Villa Angela) is a secret gem located on the best part of beautiful Maroma beach, voted one of the top ten beaches in the world by the Travel Channel. It consists of just seven One bedroom suites and two Two bedroom suites, all of which are beachfront and enjoy spectacular views.
The turquoise Caribbean sea is incredibly enticing here, but pool lovers will jump for joy at the beautiful suites Angela 1 and Xuxu. Angela 1 is a honeymooner’s delight, with a spacious king-bedded interior, a private walled garden with outdoor shower to the rear, and a stunning private swimming pool to the front. Xuxu is a two bedroom suite that would be heavenly for a family or for two couples. This suite also has its own private circular pool that’s just a few paces from the breathtakingly beautiful beach.

Hacienda San Jose, near Merida
The Yucatecan henequen lords lived a life of luxury during the early 20th century, building palatial mansions and sprawling haciendas from which to manage their estates. Today guests can enjoy a privileged lifestyle by vacationing in one of the lavishly restored hacienda hotels in this region full of archaeological and natural treasures.
The Hacienda San Jose is one of the most intimate and charming of the hacienda hotels, with its beautiful gardens, pretty chapel and charming accommodations. For the ultimate indulgence, we suggest booking the hacienda’s Master Suite. This suite has a large terrace overlooking the pretty gardens, and one of the most striking private swimming pools we’ve ever seen. The pool is surrounded by the crumbling stone walls of the ancient hacienda, and is coated with Chu-kum, a type of tree resin, giving a unique reflective and sparkling appearance. The pool is deep and inviting; ideal for cooling off after an exciting day’s sightseeing.
Best for: Exclusive family retreat, beach and spa
This luxurious boutique hotel is located on one of the Riviera Maya’s finest beaches at Xpu-ha, between Playa del Carmen and Tulum. With superb spa services and two gorgeous ocean front swimming pools, Esencia is the perfect beach hideaway for couples or families.
Many of the guest rooms have private plunge pools, but if you want to enjoy some serious swimming in your own pool, the Two Bedroom Cottages are the best choice. These sumptuous villas include a high-tech media room and comfortable sitting room in addition to the outdoor lounging area. Las Ventanas al Paraiso, Los Cabos
The dramatic coastline of Baja California’s capes is home to some of the world’s most prestigious resort hotels, and Las Ventanas al Paraiso is one of the most famous celebrity hangouts in this area. Expect the highest standards of service and cuisine, gourmet dining and exquisitely furnished accommodations.
For us, the most alluring suites are the One Bedroom Oceanfront Villas. Perched on the edge of the dazzling white beach, these single story accommodations have their own freeform infinity pools. The opulent interiors extend out onto furnished terraces equipped with a telescope for whale-watching. Elevated slightly from sea level, these quarters afford privacy from sunbathers on the beach below (but beware of inquisitive paparazzi).

Seductive and sensual, the Viceroy Riviera Maya is where the lush tropical jungle meets the translucent waters of the Caribbean. Shady pathways lead through dense foliage, offering glimpses of the luxurious villa accommodations, each one with its own private pool or plunge pool.
The Beachfront Tides Villas offer generously sized pools that allow you to soak in the heated water whilst watching the activity on the pretty beach. The oversized terrace features daybeds and a hammock shaded by the palapa roof so that you can keep your cool in the heat of the day.
