In a nutshell:
Wonderfully central location on the city’s main square, with views of the Cathedral and National Palace. Recommended for a first visit to the city, with amazing sightseeing right on the doorstep. Economical, but comfortable and convenient. Rooftop terrace restaurant is a must for breakfast.
For a first visit to Mexico City, the Hotel Majestic would be a high recommendation regardless of your budget. There is no better introduction to the city than to wake in the morning and open your windows onto the Zocalo – the second biggest plaza in the world after Red Square in Moscow. The national flag at the centre is itself the size of most town squares.
Watching the bustle of daily life on the Zocalo is an unforgettable experience, and will awaken your curiosity for this constantly surprising city. Don’t miss the early morning flag raising ceremony, or the lowering of the flag before sunset.
The location and the view are certainly the greatest draws of the Hotel Majestic, but they wouldn’t have the same appeal in a modern hotel. Although the guest rooms may not be the most luxurious in town, they have a great sense of historical significance whilst remaining comfortable and spacious. We think the combination of unrivalled location and value for money is one of the best deals in town.
Don’t miss the opportunity for breakfast in the rooftop restaurant too – the outdoor tables boast some of the finest views of the Cathedral and National Palace and it’s a great place to try some Mexican specialties.
Our favorite rooms at the Hotel Majestic overlook the Zocalo and have excellent views of the square, Cathedral and National Palace. We also recommend them for their grandstand view of the changing of the National Guard ceremony, when a garrison of soldiers raise the huge national flag in the center of the Zocalo.
For those who value their sleep, slightly quieter rooms overlook Calle Madero and the quietest of all face the internal patio.
While other hotels might offer you more luxuries, the Hotel Majestic gives you a unique opportunity to witness life in the historic center first hand. We reckon the experience is hard to beat.

All the rooms have a well stocked mini bar with reasonable prices, plus a TV and radio. The tiled bathrooms have a shower, tub and hairdryer, and are also roomy, although rather old-fashioned.
Note that the hotel does not have air-conditioning, but this is seldom a problem as temperatures remain pleasant all year round due to the elevation. Standard rooms can have either two or three single beds, two double beds or one king bed.
The five suites are located at the corner of the hotel, facing the Zocalo and Av. Madero. Four of the suites have a separate sitting room and bedroom, whilst one suite is one large room with a sitting area. The photograph shows the sitting room of a suite with a separate sitting room.
Each of the suites can also connect with a standard room with two single beds, an ideal combination for families.
Dining in the Hotel Majestic’s rooftop restaurant is an experience not to be missed. Tables lining the terrace have perfect views over the whole of the Zocalo, reputed to be the second largest public square in the world. It’s a favorite spot for locals and tourists alike, with lunchtimes particularly busy.
Breakfast here is a delight – arrive early for your choice of table (the restaurant opens at 7:00am) and you can watch the morning activity below. The buffet breakfast is highly recommended and includes a wide choice of hot dishes with fresh fruit and juices, yoghurts and rolls.
The restaurant serves fine International and Mexican cuisine with surprisingly reasonable prices. Tables are also available indoors and there’s a cozy bar with views over the city too. Check out the photographs documenting the history of the hotel in the lobby outside. If your stay includes Sunday, then look out for the Mexican brunch featuring live music on the terrace.

Mexico City’s International airport is only about 5 miles away, but the journey can take 30 minutes or more.
