In a nutshell:
La Casa que Canta is one of the world’s most romantic hotels and is a haven for honeymooners. Featured in the film “When a Man Loves a Woman”, this boutique hotel has one of the most photogenic swimming pools and also a gourmet restaurant. Rooms have views over the bay of Zihuatanejo and the private pool suites are the ultimate indulgence.
La Casa que Canta is a favorite with honeymooners and it is easy to imagine that the hotel was designed to inspire romance. The cliffside setting is dramatic, providing spectacular views and the opportunity to create an intimate environment, where each guest room is unique and apparently secluded. Grand Suites and Private Pool suites are highly desirable for special anniversaries.
The romance extends to the elegant open air restaurant, where an innovative menu is served against a backdrop of the beautiful bay of Zihuatanejo. A lingering meal begins with cocktails at sunset and ends with the twinkling of stars and the caress of sea breezes.
We recommend La Casa que Canta for couples seeking seclusion and privacy. The town of Zihuatanejo is close by and offers bars and restaurants with a genuine Mexican flavor, though the livelier nightlife is found at neighboring Ixtapa. Both are an easy taxi ride away and car rental is not necessary.
The small number of available rooms means that advance reservations at La Casa que Canta are necessary to secure a room at most times of the year.
Every guest room at La Casa que Canta is a heavenly retreat, with outstanding ocean views, private terraces and beautifully furnished interiors. Air-conditioning, servi-bars and direct dial telephones are standard. Marble bathrooms all include walk-in showers, double vanities and bidets.
We particularly recommend the Grand Suites for their spacious terraces that are around twice the size of those in the Terrace Rooms. Furnishings are of the same, very high standard in all the rooms, with space being the determining factor in the room categories.
The magnificent private pool suites have the prime locations in the hotel. These lavish accommodations are highly sought after and reservations well in advance are recommended.
La Casa que Canta was featured in the romantic movie “When a Man Loves a Woman” and has been a favorite with honeymooners since its creation.

The modern bathrooms feature huge walk-in showers, bidets and double vanities.
The Grand Suites feature king size beds with fine cotton sheets and fluffy pillows. In the evening, the expert staff will transform each bed into a masterpiece of floral art – the motifs in the photograph of the beds are not embroidery but individual petals arranged by hand.
Grand Suites also feature a spacious living room or living area that is beautifully furnished and offers a cool retreat from the midday sun.
Imagine the delights of a very private terrace with your own infinity pool and the finest ocean views. The wonderful private pool suites at La Casa que Canta are heaven on earth for honeymooners and the ultimate treat for a special anniversary.
The eclectic furnishings include Mexican handicrafts and a selection of books in each room. Most suites also feature a large dressing area with plenty of closet space.
Each suite is totally unique, and often the indoor and outdoor living areas are merged together to offer a spectacular space for lounging. It’s no surprise that many couples choose to spend a sizeable part of their vacation within the walls of these very special suites.
La Casa que Canta offers room service throughout the day and evening, and to dine outside by your private pool is a memorable occasion.
After the final glow of sunset, the cliffside terraces are transformed into a magical paradise of candlelight, soft breezes and crisp white linen. Cocktails are served in the poolside bar, and many guests gather here to sip margaritas as the sun sets. Elegant dress is favored by most, though jackets and ties aren’t required.
We recommend that you arrive early for the choice of prime ocean view tables and then enjoy a lingering meal, savoring the exquisite dishes and delightful presentation. A good choice of local and international wines is available to accompany your meal.
If your visit to La Casa que Canta is short, then you might like to try the ‘menu degustation’. This features a selection of appetizers and main courses in small portions – ideal if you don’t have time to work your way through the menu. Daily specials add to the extensive range of dishes, so even those on a longer stay can enjoy fresh temptations every evening.
Playa la Ropa has been labeled one of the most beautiful beaches in Mexico. Its soft sands are quickly reached down a steep path from the hotel. The wide bay is backed palm trees and is home to a number of hotels and seafood restaurants.
The sea is generally safe for swimming, though there can be strong undertows. A variety of water sports are available from independent outlets on the beach.
La Casa que Canta’s cliffside infinity pool is a photographer’s dream. The azure waters of the bay merge with the pool’s brim and the wide blue sky to create a vision that will remain etched on the mind as well as in the photo album.
A submerged ledge at the brink of the pool is a favorite spot for lengthy contemplation, and the view is unsurpassed.
Two further freshwater pools are positioned close to the ocean, and are reached via a steep but rewarding climb down the cliffside steps. This is also a favorite setting for sunset wedding ceremonies.
Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo airport (ZIH) is about 10 miles away, and the journey by car takes about 20 minutes.
Driving directions
From the airport, follow the signs for Zihuatanejo and then Playa la Ropa and the “hotel zone” (note that this is not the same as Ixtapa’s Hotel Zone). La Casa que Canta is on a cliff overlooking the bay and the town.
